Associate
Erik G. Wilson is an Associate at Smith Hemmesch Burke & Kaczynski. Erik brings nearly a decade of experience and a commitment to equitable property tax representation to the firm. A Chicago native, he joined the firm in May 2024, and his background spans both public and private sectors, including his role as an Administrative Law Judge with the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board and several years as a commercial property analyst with the Cook County Board of Review.
Erik earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Economics from Florida A&M University in 1996 and his Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2012, where he excelled in national trial competitions, later serving as an award-winning coach. He shared a practice for several years with his father, who is also an attorney, which instilled a solid foundation and deepened his commitment to justice.
Erik is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) and is also a former Board Member of the Cook County Bar Association. Additionally, he has been a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church of Chicago on the South Side, which he joined in 2007.
In his free time, Erik enjoys jogging or riding his bike along Lake Michigan, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family. At Smith Hemmesch Burke & Kaczynski, he focuses on property tax assessment appeals, and all other aspects of the industry, using his experience and dedication to help clients achieve favorable outcomes.
